Getting Started
Who can use ShareMyRide?
ShareMyRide is exclusively for currently enrolled college students. You need to sign up with your official college email address, which we verify with a one-time password (OTP) before your account is activated.
Why do I need to verify my college email?
Verification keeps ShareMyRide a trusted, student-only community. It helps ensure that everyone you ride with is a genuine student, which is a key part of what makes the platform safer than an open-to-anyone service.
I didn't receive my OTP. What do I do?
Check your spam/junk folder first. If it's still not there, use the "Resend OTP" button on the verification page — for your security, you can only request a new OTP once every 60 seconds, and each OTP is valid for 10 minutes.
Offering & Finding Rides
How do I offer a ride?
From the homepage, fill out the "Offer a Ride" form with your route, date, time, vehicle, seats, and price per seat, then choose whether to require your approval for each request (Manual) or let passengers join instantly (Instant). Your ride will then appear in other students' search results.
What's the difference between Instant and Manual confirmation?
With Instant, a passenger's booking request is confirmed immediately as long as seats are available. With Manual, you review each request yourself and choose to Accept or Reject it from your Hosted Rides page.
Can I edit a ride after posting it?
Yes — from "My Hosted Rides," open a ride and select "Edit Ride" to update the date, time, seats, or price, as long as the ride hasn't been cancelled or completed yet.
Can I cancel a ride I've offered?
Yes, from "My Hosted Rides." Cancelling automatically updates the status for anyone who had a pending or accepted booking on that ride, so they know it's no longer happening.
How does ShareMyRide handle payment?
ShareMyRide does not process payments. Any cost-sharing for a ride is a private arrangement directly between you and the other student — the price per seat shown is simply what the driver has chosen to ask for.
Chat & Safety
When can I chat with my driver or passenger?
In-app chat unlocks automatically once a booking is Accepted, so you can coordinate pickup details directly. Only you and the other person on that specific booking can see the conversation.
How do I report or block someone?
You'll find "Report" and "Block" options on a user's ride card and inside your chat with them. Reporting sends details to our team for review; blocking immediately prevents that user from chatting with you, booking your rides, or appearing in your search results (and vice versa).
Is ShareMyRide responsible if something goes wrong during a ride?
ShareMyRide is a platform that connects students — we don't operate vehicles or employ drivers, and rides happen directly between users. Please read our Terms & Conditions for the full details on liability and your responsibilities as a rider or driver, and our Safety Center for tips on travelling safely.
Account
How do I delete my account?
Go to Account Settings (from the profile menu) and choose "Delete Account." You'll need to confirm with your password. This permanently deletes your profile, rides, bookings, chats, and reports — it cannot be undone.
What happens to my data if I delete my account?
Everything tied to your account — your profile, hosted rides, bookings (as either driver or passenger), chat conversations, and reports — is permanently removed. See our Privacy Policy for the complete list.
I forgot my password. Can I reset it?
Password reset via email isn't available yet. In the meantime, please reach out through our Contact Us page and our team will help you regain access.
