Please read these Terms & Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using ShareMyRide. By creating an account or using the platform in any way, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use ShareMyRide.
1. ShareMyRide Is a Technology Platform Only
ShareMyRide is only a technology platform that connects students who wish to share rides with one another. ShareMyRide does not own, operate, or provide any vehicles or transportation services, and is not a transportation carrier, taxi service, or ride-hailing service of any kind. We simply provide the software that lets students post ride offers, find rides, and communicate with each other.
Drivers who post rides on ShareMyRide are independent students sharing their own personal travel — they are not employees, agents, contractors, or representatives of ShareMyRide in any capacity. ShareMyRide does not select, train, supervise, employ, or control any driver, and does not inspect, own, or maintain any vehicle used by any user.
2. Assumption of Risk
Ride-sharing with other individuals inherently involves risk. By using ShareMyRide, you acknowledge and agree that you use the platform, and travel with other users, entirely at your own risk. You are solely responsible for evaluating the suitability, safety, and legality of any ride you offer, accept, or take before agreeing to it.
3. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable Indian law, ShareMyRide, its founders, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages arising from or related to your use of the platform or any ride arranged through it, including but not limited to:
- Accidents
- Injuries
- Death
- Theft
- Fraud
- Harassment
- Assault
- Disputes between users
- Financial loss
- Vehicle damage
- Property damage
- Criminal acts committed by any user
- Ride cancellations
- Delayed rides
- Any other user behaviour, on or off the platform
ShareMyRide's total liability to you for any claim arising from your use of the platform, to the extent liability cannot be excluded under applicable law, shall not exceed the greater of ₹500 or the total amount (if any) you paid to ShareMyRide directly in the 3 months preceding the claim. ShareMyRide does not process ride payments between users — any amount paid for a shared ride is a private arrangement directly between users and is not collected, held, or facilitated by ShareMyRide.
4. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India. Any disputes arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of ShareMyRide shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in India.
5. Eligibility
ShareMyRide is available only to currently enrolled students who can verify their identity using a valid official college email address. You must be at least 18 years old, or otherwise old enough to enter into a binding contract under Indian law, to create an account.
6. User Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, truthful information when creating your account and posting or booking rides
- Use your genuine college email address — impersonation or use of another person's identity is prohibited
- Treat other users with respect, courtesy, and honesty
- Comply with all applicable traffic, safety, and civil laws
- Promptly report any safety concerns, suspicious behaviour, or violations of these Terms
- Keep your account credentials confidential and secure
7. Driver Responsibilities
If you offer a ride as a driver, you represent and warrant that:
- You hold a valid driving license appropriate for the vehicle you are operating
- Your vehicle is roadworthy, insured, and legally permitted to be on the road
- You will operate your vehicle safely, lawfully, and while not under the influence of alcohol or drugs
- You accurately represent the ride details you post (route, timing, seats, price)
- You are solely responsible for complying with any local laws regarding ride-sharing, cost-sharing, or carrying passengers
8. Passenger Responsibilities
- Exercise your own judgment before accepting a ride from any driver, and verify their identity where possible before travelling
- Be respectful of the driver's vehicle, time, and instructions
- Show up at the agreed time and location, or communicate promptly if plans change
- Not engage in any behaviour that endangers the driver or other passengers
9. Prohibited Activities
You may not use ShareMyRide to:
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your college affiliation
- Harass, threaten, abuse, or discriminate against another user
- Post false, misleading, or fraudulent ride information
- Use the platform for any commercial taxi/cab service, or any purpose beyond genuine cost-sharing between students
- Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the platform's safety features, including blocking and reporting
- Upload malicious code, scrape the platform, or attempt unauthorized access to other users' accounts or data
- Engage in any activity that is illegal under applicable law
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ShareMyRide, its founders, employees, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to: your use of the platform, your violation of these Terms, your violation of any law or the rights of a third party, or any ride, dispute, or interaction with another user arranged through ShareMyRide.
11. Reporting & Blocking
ShareMyRide provides tools to report users who violate these Terms and to block users you don't wish to interact with. We may investigate reports, and may suspend or terminate accounts found to violate these Terms, at our sole discretion, with or without notice.
12. Account Suspension & Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your account, at our sole discretion and without prior notice, if we believe you have violated these Terms, engaged in fraudulent or unsafe behaviour, or posed a risk to other users. You may also delete your own account at any time via Account Settings — see our Privacy Policy for what account deletion removes.
13. No Warranty
ShareMyRide is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law. We do not warrant that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any ride posted by another user will be safe, reliable, or as described.
14. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of ShareMyRide after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
